Resolution criteria on PolyGram: This market will resolve according to the person who is appointed as the next permanent manager of the Boston Red Sox. If no permanent manager is appointed by January 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other." Appointments of 'interim,' 'caretaker,' or other non-permanent managers will not impact this market's resolution. An announcement of a new permanent manager's appointment before this market's close date will immediately resolve this market to the corresponding option, regardless of when the announced appointment goes into effect.

The Boston Red Sox will need to appoint a permanent manager before the end of January 2027. The current crowd-implied probability of 7% YES reflects substantial uncertainty about whether a formal appointment will occur within the settlement window. This market distinguishes between permanent managerial appointments and interim or caretaker roles, meaning any temporary leadership arrangement would not trigger resolution. The 100-point spread with 4.5% rewards suggests moderate liquidity on Polymarket's order book, with the current pricing indicating traders assess a low likelihood of a permanent hire announcement by the deadline.
Managerial searches in Major League Baseball typically span several months, particularly when clubs conduct thorough vetting processes. The Red Sox last hired a permanent manager in November 2021 when they appointed Alex Cora, who was subsequently fired in October 2024. Historical precedent shows that MLB teams often take four to six months to complete managerial searches, which would place a typical 2025 hiring window into spring training season rather than the January 2027 deadline. The 7% probability reflects the compressed timeline relative to standard hiring practices.
Key catalysts include the Red Sox's formal announcement of a search process, public statements from ownership regarding hiring timelines, and any managerial candidate interviews or negotiations reported by sports media. The club's competitive positioning during the 2025 and 2026 seasons may influence urgency around a permanent appointment. Traders should monitor MLB trade deadline periods and off-season developments, as these typically generate managerial movement across the league.
