Market outcomes
| RFK Jr. Out by December 31? | 33% YES | 67% NO |
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services in January 2025 following his nomination by President Trump. This market assesses the probability that Kennedy will depart from the role—whether through resignation, removal, or any other mechanism—before the end of 2026. The current order book on Polymarket implies a 33% probability of departure within this two-year window, suggesting traders view Kennedy's tenure as more likely to persist than to be disrupted.
Historical precedent offers limited guidance for Cabinet longevity under Trump. During his first term (2017–2021), turnover was notably high, with HHS seeing two Secretaries across four years. However, Kennedy's position differs materially: he holds substantial ideological alignment with Trump, commands a dedicated political constituency, and his portfolio encompasses contentious health policy areas where continuity may be valued. Comparable figures like Peter Navarro, who remained influential despite formal departures, illustrate that Trump administration tenures can be volatile yet resilient for favoured appointees.
Traders should monitor several catalysts. Congressional pressure regarding vaccine policy, pharmaceutical regulation, or public health decisions could accelerate departure timelines. Kennedy's health status and any major policy reversals—particularly around FDA approvals or pharmaceutical litigation—warrant close attention. Media coverage of internal administration conflicts, particularly between Kennedy and other Cabinet members over health spending or regulatory scope, has already surfaced and may intensify. The 2026 midterm elections could reshape political dynamics affecting Kennedy's position, whilst any significant public health crisis would test his operational capacity and political durability.
